When we contract to do an Estate Sale, we first survey the home and outbuildings. We then categorize items and organize them so that like items are found together. This enables us to price items in a more consistent way. It also enhances the ability of buyers to selectively shop for items of interest. For example, a client's collection of pottery would be showcased intact. The special effort that we put into this shows up in increased revenue--we find the better organized the sale, the more successful the sale.
We can also accommodate other parties that wish to offer one or more pieces for consignment. This often adds variety and interest to the sale that benefits the client. Following the end of a sale, a client has a choice. We can box up unsold items and clear out the house completely, freeing the client of this less glamorous phase of the process. Generally unsold items are donated to a local charity. Or the owner has the option of disposing of the items.
SALES:
Sales are generally held for three days: Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 3 pm. The first day of the sale we give out numbers so people can be served in a fair and orderly manner. Our prices are firm for the first two days. We will only negotiate the prices if someone purchases a significant amount on the 1st and 2nd day. We feel that our prices are fair. Therefore, we wish to make as big a monetary return to our client as possible. On the 1st and 2nd day customers may leave bids for items of interest and these bids will be reviewed at the close of the 2nd day, before markdown. The highest bidder will then be notified at the end of the 2nd day and can retrieve their purchases the following day.
